foundation EXAM
DO AS I DO Foundation
training CERTIFICATION
This exam evaluates the dog’s readiness for the Do as I Do certification process, focusing on the
dog’s ability to:
-
correctly perform familiar actions on verbal cue only, and
-
sit (or stand) and stay at the starting position, facing straight at the starting mark consistently in each trial
Eligibility :
-
Open to any dog-owner pair interested in Do as I Do. Passing this exam is mandatory to take the Basic level Do as I Do certification.
Delivery:
-
Conducted by a certified Do as I Do trainer, either live or online, or
-
by submitting the video to the Do as I Do official team.
Setup:
-
Use a clear start position marker (Tape on the floor or mat) for both the dog and the handler.
-
The dog and handler must align straight on the marker, facing each other.
-
The handler (for live exams), or the video camera (for online or video submission), must be positioned behind the dog, capturing the handler and dog in one straight line with both full bodies and objects clearly visible.
Procedure:
-
The dog is tested on 3 familiar actions, selected by the handler and approved by the certified trainer/judge.
-
Before each trial, the handler guides the dog into a straight position on the marked line or mat and stands on the owner’s side of the marker. (The dog’s starting posture – sit or stand – does not need to be performed on verbal cue only.)
-
The test consists of 6 trials:
- Each action must be tested twice, in random order
- The handler gives the verbal cue once the dog is correctly positioned.
-
This process is repeated twice, reversing the order, with the object positioned differently in the second run. For video submission, both runs must be recorded in one continuous video and uploaded to YouTube with a private setting.
Passing criteria: The dog must succeed in all 12 trials, in two consecutive successful sessions.
